Improvise, Adapt, Overcome Or… Leave!

While we have all heard the world famous quote ‘Improvise, Adapt and Overcome’ , how many of us resonate with this mantra? Or perhaps, how impactful has it been so much so that it has changed our lives for better?

While looking for answers, we often forget the primary question. After spending countless hours brainstorming on how to get through the situation, we often forget to ask ourselves why we landed in it. Had we known the exact question to our answers, we probably wouldn’t have come searching for the solution.

Anyway, what could have been is very different from what it is now, and many a times we feel we don’t have much of a choice but to improve upon the situation, adapt to it and eventually overcome it. Yes, it is the best way to make things work out at present. But what if we aren’t able to overcome the obstacle? Or what if we keep landing into similar situations every now and then?

Thinking from a career perspective, we try to follow this methodology to adapt and overcome any challenges we face while climbing the success ladder, but many a times it impacts us negatively. It results in constant pressure to always try to adapt to the situation. If we aren’t able to overcome or adapt to the challenges, then it becomes very difficult to improvise and to adapt further and that’s where the growth stops.

Only if we could think the other way, understand what's best suited for us and eventually redefine our strategies or at times, reevaluate our goals.

It is safe to say every individual has their own preferences, and not every playing field is their cup of tea. Sooner the better it is to realize that one can’t have it all, and sometimes there is no better option but to leave. Leave, for it may not be the easiest thing to do but it certainly helps to take charge of your decisions, to rethink the choices which led you to this decision, and to not make the same mistake over and over again..

Not saying that it is wrong to fail, or that we shouldn’t try to improvise, adapt and overcome the challenges. Yes we need to, we have to get past the hurdles in order to progress, but when we find ourselves past a point of no return where we just cannot adapt or find possibilities to overcome a situation, then instead of loosing the battle, consider taking a break or sometimes, leave the battlefield for good.

Leave, and focus on things you know, on things you believe you can do which wouldn’t put you into a situation you possibly can’t get out of. This is the best option to choose, when everything else fails.

Define your path, Climb your own ladder of success

Learn from your mistakes, improvise, adapt and overcome…but if it doesn’t work in your favor then just leave everything behind and move, on and upwards with a clear outlook.
